Shandong University established the Student Global Governance & International Organization Development Association on March 23 with the aim of training more Chinese talents for international organizations, according to the university.
"There is a small number of Chinese people working for international organizations and these Chinese staff members usually assume lower posts," said Tong Xinghua, deputy Party secretary of Shandong University, at the inauguration ceremony.
According to Tong, to set up the organization is an important move for the university to cultivate Chinese talents for international organizations.
He promised to introduce more resources to help the students learn about various international organizations and improve their personal competence.
Song Yunfu, former director of foreign affair department of China's Ministry of Health and former diplomatic officer of the World Health Organization, was invited to deliver a lecture during the inauguration ceremony.
Song detailed on what is an international civil servant, the reason for being an international civil servant, and how to cultivate the necessary qualities for the career to members of the newly-founded association and more than other 200 students from the university.
SDU is one of the elite universities in China and attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation So far it has established inter-collegiate cooperation with more than 120 universities in over 40 countries and regions.
