Students from Daido University of Japan Visited HSNU for a Short-term Study on Chinese Culture
From September 2 to 15th, Dr. Ryo Ito and Ms. Noriko Hirayama of Daido University, Japan, led of a group of nine students to HSNU for a short-term study on Chinese culture. Chen Shusi, President of HSNU, delivered a speech and awarded course-completion certificates to the students at the closing ceremony.
Chen noted that both universities had achieved fruitful results in teachers and students exchanges since the two entered into an agreement of cooperation in 2012. This short-term study testified to another achievement in collaboration. He expressed the hope of wider and deeper exchange between both sides.
Dr. Ito extended gratitude to the considerate arrangement and cordial reception from HSNU. He said the students had benefited a lot from this study with a better understanding of China’s long history –especially Chaozhou’s fine traditional culture – and the profound friendship they had fostered with their Chinese counterparts.
A series of events were organized for the students during the study, including visits to Chi-Chan Chen Calligraphy Hall, Chen Fuli Photography Hall, Chan Wainam Planetarium, and the Biological Specimens Exhibition Hall; lectures on Chaozhou history, culture and tourism, ceramics in China and Chaozhou in particular; observations of performances by somesthetic robots and under-water robots; appreciation of traditional Chinese music; practice of traditional Chinese Taiji boxing, lion dancing, ping pong, 3-D printing, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting, paper-cutting, embroidery, clay modeling, Chaozhou cuisine, and traditional Chinese musical instruments; off-campus visits to Chaozhou Yitaoxuan Kiln Museum and Xiangju Embroidery Store as well as the downtown area to get an insight into Chaozhou’s history, culture and industry development.
The short-term study has deepened the students’ understanding of China, especially Chaozhou, leaving them a profound impression of the city’s rich culture, delicious cuisine, and the hospitality from HSNU. They all expressed the hope of future visit to HSNU.
