SDU and the University of Chicago Held a Symposium on Childr

A symposium on Children and Teenager Development was held in Beijing by the Institute of Governance and the School of Political Science and Public Administration of Shandong University, together with the University of Chicago Beijing Center on June 1. Scholars from domestic universities and the University of Chicago were invited to attend the symposium and discussed issues about the development of children and teenagers.
Issues discussed in the symposium included social investigations into children and teenagers; children education; investigations and discoveries on teenagers' attitudes and values; the relationship between poverty, urbanization and children development; and social service to children in difficulty.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Dr. Lijun Chen, Senior Researcher at the Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago. Cao Xianqiang, Executive Deputy Dean of the School of Political Science and Public Administration delivered a speech.

Researchers from Peking University, Renmin University of China, the University of Chicago and Sun Yat-sen University introduced Chinese Family Panel Studies (CFPS) and their findings during the discussion about social investigations into children and teenagers and children education. When discussing discoveries on the teenagers' attitudes and values, researchers from Renmin University of China and Shandong University shared their findings in the panel study of college students in Beijing, the comparative study of the teenagers' values of different generations, and the survey of college students' political psychology in Shandong Province. On the relationship between poverty, urbanization and children development, researchers from the University of Chicago, Shandong University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University shared abundant research results, including indicators of children's development, education on migrant children, children's malnutrition and cognitive development and multidimensional social work to eradicate children's poverty. As for social service to children in difficulty, researchers from Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing Normal University, United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund and China Social Welfare Foundation introduced the children-centered model of PICS, technical support and supervision, latent and protective elements of child abusive, and the goals, advantages and functions of child information systems.
More than 20 researchers at home and abroad attended the symposium.
