Beijing spirit

[ Home ]

Often people consider Shanghai as the NYC of China, maybe only the copycat skyscrapings. But from social and cultural perspectives, people of Beijing share more in common with a New York Spirit. They are rustic and romantic, friendly and bold, everything front lines are under the nose; their most precious central land is yet reserved and open to the public, and they have a “K town” where almost everything is in Korean. Here you hear about the rich and their money, about politicians and their power, about celebrities and their gossips, about migrants and families, about foreigners and overseas, about bar singers and their dreams, writers and theatre shows, museums and art students, about the country’s long struggling history, revolutions and contemporary art. Shanghai, on the other hand is relatively more simplex, also more similar to one part of New York: the Wall Street district.
